Alma is a city in Buffalo County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 942 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Buffalo County GR6. The city is located within the Town of Alma. Alma is located at 44 °20 24 N, 91 °55 27 W (44.340068, -91.924432) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.2 km (7.8 mi ). 15.2 km (5.9 mi ) of it is land and 5.0 km (1.9 mi ) of it (24.81%) is water. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 942 people, 421 households, and 261 families residing in the city. The population density was 62.1/km (160.8/mi ). There were 495 housing units at an average density of 32.6/km (84.5/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 97.03% White, 0.21% Black or African American, 0.85% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, and 1.49% from two or more races. 0.85% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 421 households out of which 23.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.5% were married couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.8% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
