Rainier is a town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,492 at the 2000 census.

In 1941, Rainier was described as "...served by the Northern Pacific and the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroads, is the social center for farmers and loggers of the vicinity, although its closed mills and vacant houses mark it as a ghost lumber town." ( Washington - A Guide to the Evergreen State, WPA American Guide Series, Washington State Historical Society, 1941). Rainier's 1940 population was 500. Rainier was officially incorporated on October 23, 1947.

Rainier is located at 46 °53 27 N, 122 °41 23 W (46.890938, -122.689619) GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.2 km (1.6 mi ), all land.

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 1,492 people, 530 households, and 410 families residing in the town. The population density was 355.6/km (922.8/mi ). There were 551 housing units at an average density of 131.3/km (340.8/mi ). The racial makeup of the town was 92.56% White, 0.54% African American, 1.81% Native American, 0.74% Asian, 0.27% Pacific Islander, 0.80% from other races, and 3.28% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.89% of the population.
