Cockrell Hill is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,443 at the 2000 census. It is an "island city" (as opposed to a true suburb ) in that it is completely surrounded by the city of Dallas, Texas.

In recent years the city has been the subject of reported mismanagement. The city has no substantial tax base (it is a bedroom community, with no industrial development); the tax revenue is so tiny that the city is served by a volunteer fire department. Notwithstanding its tax and management problems, there have been no formal proposals to merge Cockrell Hill with Dallas.

Cockrell Hill is located at 32 °44 19 N, 96 °53 21 W (32.738731, -96.889181) GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.5 km (0.6 mi ), all land.

Cockrell Hill was established by the pioneer Brentwood Allen Cockrell and his son, Woodrow. They established the town as a way of making a living, and ran it like a business, a tradition which continues today, and is evident in the style of governance in the immediate region.
