Tyndall is a city in Bon Homme County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 1,239 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Bon Homme County GR6. Tyndall is located at 42 °59 30 N, 97 °51 49 W (42.991775, -97.863539) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 km (1.6 mi ), all land. Tyndall has been assigned the ZIP code 57066 and the FIPS place code 64860. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 1,239 people, 524 households, and 311 families residing in the city. The population density was 302.8/km (783.6/mi ). There were 579 housing units at an average density of 141.5/km (366.2/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 98.22% White, 0.56% African American, 0.56% Native American, 0.16% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.65% of the population. There were 524 households out of which 24.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% were married couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.5% were non-families. 36.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
