Barrington is a town in Bristol County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 16,819 at the 2000 census.

In July of 2005, CNN/Money and Money magazine ranked Barrington sixth on its list of the 100 best places to live in the United States.

Barrington was famous in the 90s for the Brendel murders.

Barrington is located at 41 °44 42 N, 71 °19 5 W (41.745201, -71.318193) GR1 along the tidal Barrington River.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.9 km (15.4 mi ). 21.8 km (8.4 mi ) of it is land and 18.2 km (7.0 mi ) of it (45.46%) is water.

Barrington is named for Barrington, Somerset in England.

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 16,819 people, 6,011 households, and 4,712 families residing in the town. The population density was 771.2/km (1,998.1/mi ). There were 6,199 housing units at an average density of 284.3/km (736.4/mi ). The racial makeup of the town was 96.37% White, 0.68% Black or African American, 0.11% Native American, 1.77% Asian, 0.26% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.05% of the population.
