Swoyersville is a borough in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,157 at the 2000 census.

Swoyersville's economy was formerly based on coal mining, until the town's mines ceased production in the 1950s. In 1972, the town was severely flooded by Susquehanna River in the aftermath of Hurricane Agnes.

A number of professional athletes grew up in Swoyerville, including Lou Michaels (former kicker for the Baltimore Colts), Walt Michaels (former head coach of the New York Jets), and Joe Holup (forward for the NBA's Syracuse Nationals and Detroit Pistons).

Swoyersville is located at 41 °17 41 N, 75 °52 36 W (41.294602, -75.876684) GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 5.6 km (2.2 mi ), all land.

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 5,157 people, 2,243 households, and 1,484 families residing in the borough. The population density was 921.8/km (2,386.4/mi ). There were 2,356 housing units at an average density of 421.1/km (1,090.3/mi ). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.22% White, 0.10% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.08% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.16% of the population.
