Hazle Township is a township in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,000 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 117.0 km (45.2 mi ). 116.3 km (44.9 mi ) of it is land and 0.6 km (0.2 mi ) of it (0.53%) is water.

As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 9,000 people, 3,775 households, and 2,536 families residing in the township. The population density was 77.4/km (200.3/mi ). There were 4,002 housing units at an average density of 34.4/km (89.1/mi ). The racial makeup of the township was 98.67% White, 0.17% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.42% from other races, and 0.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.02% of the population.

There were 3,775 households out of which 25.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.86.
