Dallas is a borough in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, USA. The population was 2,557 at the 2000 census. It was named for George Dallas, the vice president of James Polk. The local government describes the borough as the "heart" of The Back Mountain, a census-designated place consisting of Dallas, Kingston Twp, a part of Wyoming, West Wyoming, & Harveys Lake. Dallas is located at 41 °19 60 N, 75 °58 0 W (41.333213, -75.966755) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 6.2 km (2.4 mi ). 5.9 km (2.3 mi ) of it is land and 0.2 km (0.1 mi ) of it (3.78%) is water. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 2,557 people, 1,031 households, and 715 families residing in the borough. The population density was 431.1/km (1,116.9/mi ). There were 1,094 housing units at an average density of 184.5/km (477.8/mi ). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.97% White, 0.47% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.78% Asian, 0.12% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races.
