Dayton is a city in Yamhill County, Oregon, United States. The population was 2,119 at the 2000 census. The current population as of the end of 2006 is 2230 according to the sign in the entrance of the city. Dayton is located in the Willamette Valley, approximately 25 miles southwest of Portland. Dayton is rural community with many people involved in agriculture, including nursery stock and wine vineyards, as well as vegetable, berry, nut, and wheat production and dairy farming. [ citation needed ] Dayton is located at 45 °13 14 N, 123 °4 41 W (45.220651, -123.078177) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.9 km (0.7 mi ), all land. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 2,119 people, 641 households, and 516 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,136.3/km (2,935.4/mi ). There were 656 housing units at an average density of 351.8/km (908.7/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 80.70% White, 1.56% African American, 1.18% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 11.80% from other races, and 4.25% from two or more races.
