The City of Delaware is located near the center of the state of Ohio, about 20 miles north of Columbus, Ohio. Delaware was founded in 1808, incorporated in 1816, and is the county seat of Delaware County, Ohio GR6. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 25,246. This figure was estimated to be 31,322 in a 2005 Census estimate. According to a list compiled by American Demographics Incorporated, Delaware County ranks fourteenth out of twenty areas in the United States designated as the fastest-growing in the year 2000. Delaware is located at 40 °17 56 N, 83 °4 19 W (40.298898, -83.072007) GR1. The town is located about 24 miles north of Ohio's capital city, Columbus, due north along U.S. Highway 23. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 39.1 km (15.1 mi ). 38.8 km (15.0 mi ) of it is land and 0.3 km (0.1 mi ) of it (0.66%) is water. 8========D Delaware is the site of the Ohio Wesleyan University, one of the top liberal arts colleges in the United States and one of the Five Colleges of Ohio.
