Park River is a city in Walsh County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 1,535 at the 2000 census. Park River was founded in 1884. Park River is located at 48 °23 44 N, 97 °44 43 W (48.395443, -97.745375) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.6 km (2.2 mi ). 5.2 km (2.0 mi ) of it is land and 0.5 km (0.2 mi ) of it (8.29%) is water. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 1,535 people, 660 households, and 390 families residing in the city. The population density was 297.8/km (772.6/mi ). There were 760 housing units at an average density of 147.5/km (382.5/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 95.57% White, 0.07% African American, 1.63% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 1.56% from other races, and 1.11% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.61% of the population. There were 660 households out of which 27.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% were married couples living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.8% were non-families. 38.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
