Turtle Lake is a city in McLean County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 580 at the 2000 census. Turtle Lake was founded in 1905. Turtle Lake is located at 47 °31 10 N, 100 °53 27 W (47.519378, -100.890857) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 km (0.5 mi ). 1.3 km (0.5 mi ) of it is land and 1.92% is water. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 580 people, 290 households, and 171 families residing in the city. The population density was 447.9/km (1,154.2/mi ). There were 329 housing units at an average density of 254.1/km (654.7/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 98.79% White, 0.86% Native American, 0.17% Asian, and 0.17% from two or more races. There were 290 households out of which 18.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% were married couples living together, 2.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.7% were non-families. 38.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 25.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
