Max is a city in McLean County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 278 at the 2000 census. Max was founded in 1906. Max is located at 47 °49 20 N, 101 °17 44 W (47.822171, -101.295529) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 km (0.8 mi ), all land. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 278 people, 129 households, and 74 families residing in the city. The population density was 139.4/km (362.3/mi ). There were 150 housing units at an average density of 75.2/km (195.5/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 95.68% White, 1.44% Native American, 1.44% Asian, and 1.44% from two or more races. There were 129 households out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.6% were non-families. 40.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 27.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
