LaMoure is a city in LaMoure County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 944 at the 2000 census. LaMoure was founded in 1882. LaMoure was one of eight global transmission sites of the Omega Navigation System until its closure on September 30, 1997. The station is now used for VLF communication purposes of the US Navy. LaMoure is located at 46 °21 31 N, 98 °17 37 W (46.358569, -98.293697) GR1 on the James River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.3 km (1.3 mi ), all land. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 944 people, 386 households, and 238 families residing in the city. The population density was 284.8/km (736.2/mi ). There were 433 housing units at an average density of 130.6/km (337.7/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 99.15% White, 0.42% Native American, 0.11% from other races, and 0.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.64% of the population.
