Casselton is a city in Cass County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2000 census. The city is named for George Cass, a president of the Northern Pacific Railway, which established a station there in 1876. Today the city serves primarily as a bedroom community for Fargo, which is located 20 miles east of Casselton. Casselton is located at 46 °54 0 N, 97 °12 38 W (46.900028, -97.210668) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.7 km (1.4 mi ). 3.7 km (1.4 mi ) of it is land and 0.1 km (0.04 mi ) of it (2.08%) is water. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 1,855 people, 702 households, and 509 families residing in the city. The population density was 508.0/km (1,315.5/mi ). There were 738 housing units at an average density of 202.1/km (523.4/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 98.22% White, 0.16% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races.
