Fort Totten is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Benson County, North Dakota, in the United States. The population was 952 at the 2000 census. Fort Totten is located at 47 °58 44 N, 99 °0 1 W (47.978919, -99.000405) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 20.4 km (7.9 mi ). 19.9 km (7.7 mi ) of it is land and 0.5 km (0.2 mi ) of it (2.54%) is water. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 952 people, 230 households, and 200 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 47.9/km (124.2/mi ). There were 255 housing units at an average density of 12.8/km (33.3/mi ). The racial makeup of the CDP was 0.84% White, 0.11% African American, 98.84% Native American, and 0.21% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.74% of the population. There were 230 households out of which 54.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 28.7% were married couples living together, 43.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.0% were non-families. 10.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
