Mint Hill is a town in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina on the outskirts of Charlotte and near the Union and Cabarrus County lines. The population was 14,922 at the 2000 census. Mint Hill is located at 35 °10 49 N, 80 °39 52 W (35.180189, -80.664432) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 55.1 km (21.3 mi ). 55.0 km (21.2 mi ) of it is land and 0.1 km (0.04 mi ) of it (0.19%) is water. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 14,922 people, 5,581 households, and 4,431 families residing in the town. The population density was 271.4/km (702.9/mi ). There were 5,763 housing units at an average density of 104.8/km (271.5/mi ). The racial makeup of the town was 90.11% White, 5.81% African American, 0.72% Native American, 1.15% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.07% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.16% of the population. There were 5,581 households out of which 33.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.9% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.6% were non-families. 16.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
