Laurel is a city in Yellowstone County, Montana, United States. It is part of the Billings, Montana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 6,255 at the 2000 census.

Both the interstate highway I-90 and a number of local railroads run through Laurel. It is most known for its industry and agriculture, but also has a historic shopping district.

Laurel is home to a Cenex oil refinery.

Laurel is located at 45 °40 26 N, 108 °46 15 W (45.673986, -108.770893) GR1. It is located 3300 feet above sea level.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.9 km (1.9 mi ), all land.

Some of Laurel's residents commute the 15 miles to Billings, Montana's largest city. Laurel is also significant as it lies on one of two main roads to Red Lodge. Red Lodge, 45 miles away, is a popular mountain town and one end of the Beartooth Highway.

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 6,255 people, 2,529 households, and 1,739 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,284.6/km (3,318.5/mi ). There were 2,647 housing units at an average density of 543.6/km (1,404.3/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 96.55% White, 0.16% African American, 1.17% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.69% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.41% of the population.
