Hill City is a city in Aitkin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 479 at the 2000 census.

Hill City is situated on the shores of Hill Lake, a glacial formation roughly two miles long and an average of.25 miles wide. At the southern end of the lake there is a large hill, called Quadna Mountain locally, presumably formed at the same time as the lake. This 'mountain' is Hill City's namesake. The town's only two industries are Lemco, which manufactures hydraulic log splitters and Roll-In Docks, which manufactures docks and pontoon boats. The town and surrounding area is also home to an ATV dealership, two restaurants, three bars, a liquor store, a K-12 school, two gas stations and several parks, one of which offers camping.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.4 km (1.3 mi ). 2.8 km (1.1 mi ) of it is land and 0.6 km (0.2 mi ) of it (18.18%) is water.

As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 479 people, 213 households, and 120 families residing in the city. The population density was 169.7/km (441.1/mi ). There were 391 housing units at an average density of 138.5/km (360.1/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 97.49% White, 1.88% Native American, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.67% of the population.
