Marine City, MI Real Estate

Marine City is a city in St. Clair County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,652 at the 2000 census. The city features auto ferry service to Ontario, Canada.

The first European settlers arrived in the 1708s and obtained a deed from the Chippewa Indians. The community was known as "Yankee Point" and "Belle River" before being platted as the Village of Newport in 1834. Although it never incorporated, it was known as "Newport" for 31 years until the village of Marine City was incorporated in 1865. The village re-incorporated as a city in June of 1887.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.4 km (2.5 mi ). 5.7 km (2.2 mi ) of it is land and 0.7 km (0.3 mi ) of it (11.34%) is water.

As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 4,652 people, 1,860 households, and 1,212 families residing in the city. The population density was 820.2/km (2,120.8/mi ). There were 2,006 housing units at an average density of 353.7/km (914.5/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 97.29% White, 0.09% African American, 0.56% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.86% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.38% of the population.
