Michigamme is an unincorporated community in Marquette County of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a census-designated place (CDP) used for statistical purposes and without any legal status as a municipality. As of the 2000 census, the community population was 287. The community is located within Michigamme Township. According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 12.1 km (4.7 mi ). 6.5 km (2.5 mi ) of it is land and 5.6 km (2.2 mi ) of it (46.58%) is water. As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 287 people, 138 households, and 94 families residing in the community. The population density was 44.3/km (114.7/mi ). There were 271 housing units at an average density of 41.9/km (108.3/mi ). The racial makeup of the community was 99.30% White and 0.70% Native American. There were 138 households out of which 19.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.1% were married couples living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
