South Range is a village in Adams Township, Houghton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is about five miles southwest of Houghton on M-26. The population was 727 at the 2000 census. The ZIP code for South Range is 49963. It is a "cooperating community of the Keweenaw National Historical Park." [1] According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.0 km (0.4 mi ), all land. As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 727 people, 347 households, and 191 families residing in the village. The population density was 701.7/km (1,821.1/mi ). There were 378 housing units at an average density of 364.9/km (946.9/mi ). The racial makeup of the village was 96.84% White, 2.20% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.14% from other races, and 0.41% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.14% of the population. There were 347 households out of which 21.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.6% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 44.7% were non-families. 38.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
