Lake Linden is a village in Houghton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,081 at the 2000 census. The village is mostly within Schoolcraft Township, though a tiny portion lies in Torch Lake Township. A fire destroyed most of Lake Linden in 1887. [1] According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.0 km (0.8 mi ). 1.7 km (0.7 mi ) of it is land and 0.3 km (0.1 mi ) of it (14.29%) is water. As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 1,081 people, 485 households, and 307 families residing in the village. The population density was 632.4/km (1,646.8/mi ). There were 569 housing units at an average density of 332.9/km (866.8/mi ). The racial makeup of the village was 97.41% White, 0.09% African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.19% from other races, and 1.20% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.93% of the population. There were 485 households out of which 26.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.9% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.7% were non-families. 34.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
