Adams Township is a civil township of Houghton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township population was 2,747. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 123.6 km (47.7 mi ). 122.4 km (47.2 mi ) of it is land and 1.2 km (0.5 mi ) of it (1.01%) is water. As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 2,747 people, 1,011 households, and 630 families residing in the township. The population density was 22.4/km (58.1/mi ). There were 1,160 housing units at an average density of 9.5/km (24.6/mi ). The racial makeup of the township was 92.61% White, 5.17% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.62% of the population. There were 1,011 households out of which 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.5% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.6% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
