Medfield (New Dedham) was first settled in 1649 and was officially incorporated in 1651. The settlers were thirteen families who relocated from Dedham. The Rev. Ralph Wheelock is credited with the founding of Medfield, and has the 2nd-3rd grade school named after him. The town's boundaries originally extended into present-day Medway and Millis.
