Medfield is a town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 12,273 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 37.8 km (14.6 mi ). 37.6 km (14.5 mi ) of it is land and 0.2 km (0.1 mi ) of it (0.62%) is water. The Charles River passes through Medfield. See: http://www.mass.gov/mgis/massgis.htm (2000 census data) Population/Housing Age Distribution Income Data Medfield (New Dedham) was first settled in 1649 and was officially incorporated in 1651. The settlers were thirteen families who relocated from Dedham. The Rev. Ralph Wheelock is credited with the founding of Medfield, and has the 2nd-3rd grade school named after him.
