Mitchellville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 9,611 at the 2000 census. It is home to the Six Flags America theme park. Mitchellville, including its gated country-club community Woodmore, is one of the most affluent predominantly African-American communities in the United States. Miles to downtown Washington, D.C. - 15 to 20 Mitchellville is located at 38 °56 29 N, 76 °48 49 W (38.941300, -76.813616) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.9 km (5.0 mi ), all land. As of the United States Census GR2 of 2000, there were 9,611 people, 3,148 households, and 2,556 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 745.1/km (1,930.4/mi ). There were 3,243 housing units at an average density of 251.4/km (651.4/mi ). The racial makeup of the CDP was 13.29% White, 78.50% African American, 0.26% Native American, 3.93% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.80% from other races, and 3.15% from two or more races. 2.09% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
