Hillcrest Heights is a census-designated place (CDP) in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 16,359 at the 2000 census. For mailing address purposes, it is part of the larger Temple Hills, MD. Hillcrest Heights consists of single-family homes and duplex homes built mostly in the 1950s and 1960s. Adjacent to it is Iverson Mall, a midsize 2-level shopping mall opened in the 1960s which serves shoppers from Maryland communities as well as from the Anacostia section of Washington, D.C. Stations of the metrorail green line are nearby. Also nearby are the U.S. Census Bureau in Suitland and further out, Andrews Air Force Base and the Capital Beltway. Hillcrest Heights is located at 38 °50 18 N, 76 °57 35 W (38.838212, -76.959795) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.3 km (2.4 mi ), all land. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 16,359 people, 6,752 households, and 4,206 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,599.3/km (6,724.2/mi ). There were 7,190 housing units at an average density of 1,142.4/km (2,955.4/mi ). The racial makeup of the CDP was 4.58% White, 93.18% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 1.44% from two or more races.
