Jonesport is a town in Washington County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,408 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 260.7 km (100.7 mi ). 73.8 km (28.5 mi ) of it is land and 186.9 km (72.2 mi ) of it (71.68%) is water. As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 1,408 people, 597 households, and 397 families residing in the town. The population density was 19.1/km (49.4/mi ). There were 877 housing units at an average density of 11.9/km (30.8/mi ). The racial makeup of the town was 97.80% White, 0.28% African American, 0.71% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.14% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.43% of the population. There were 597 households out of which 27.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 29.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
