Danforth is a town in Washington County, Maine, United States. The population was 629 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 157.7 km (60.9 mi ). 140.9 km (54.4 mi ) of it is land and 16.8 km (6.5 mi ) of it (10.64%) is water. As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 629 people, 263 households, and 175 families residing in the town. The population density was 4.5/km (11.6/mi ). There were 544 housing units at an average density of 3.9/km (10.0/mi ). The racial makeup of the town was 99.68% White, 0.16% Native American and 0.16% Asian. There were 263 households out of which 28.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.1% were non-families. 30.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
