Cherryfield is a town in Washington County, Maine, United States on the Narraguagus River. The population was 1,157 at the 2000 census. The town bills itself as the " Blueberry capital of the world". Roughly 75 acres on both sides of the river are a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 114.6 km (44.2 mi ). 113.3 km (43.7 mi ) of it is land and 1.3 km (0.5 mi ) of it (1.18%) is water. As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 1,157 people, 493 households, and 317 families residing in the town. The population density was 10.2/km (26.5/mi ). There were 644 housing units at an average density of 5.7/km (14.7/mi ). The racial makeup of the town was 98.01% White, 0.09% African American, 0.69% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.17% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.09% of the population. There were 493 households out of which 27.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% were married couples living together, 8.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.5% were non-families. 30.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
