Beals is a town in Washington County, Maine, United States. The population was 618 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 123.0 km (47.5 mi ). 14.7 km (5.7 mi ) of it is land and 108.3 km (41.8 mi ) of it (88.04%) is water. As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 618 people, 237 households, and 188 families residing in the town. The population density was 42.0/km (108.7/mi ). There were 370 housing units at an average density of 25.2/km (65.1/mi ). The racial makeup of the town was 97.57% White, 1.29% African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.16% Asian, and 0.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.10% of the population. There were 237 households out of which 34.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.6% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.3% were non-families. 16.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
