Grand Isle is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. The population was 518 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 91.1 km (35.2 mi ). 88.8 km (34.3 mi ) of it is land and 2.3 km (0.9 mi ) of it (2.53%) is water. As of the census 2 of 2000, there were 518 people, 218 households, and 161 families residing in the town. The population density was 5.8/km (15.1/mi ). There were 268 housing units at an average density of 3.0/km (7.8/mi ). The racial makeup of the town was 98.84% White, 0.39% Native American, 0.19% Asian, and 0.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population. There were 218 households out of which 23.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.3% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.7% were non-families. 22.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
