Edgard is a census-designated place and town in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, of which it is the parish seat. The population was 2,637 at the 2000 census.

Edgard was the birthplace of musician and songwriter Dave Bartholomew.

Edgard is located at 30 °2 2 N, 90 °33 14 W (30.033974, -90.553802) GR1, on the west bank of the Mississippi River.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 46.3 km (17.9 mi ). 40.2 km (15.5 mi ) of it is land and 6.1 km (2.3 mi ) of it (13.09%) is water.

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 2,637 people, 857 households, and 695 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 65.5/km (169.7/mi ). There were 905 housing units at an average density of 22.5/km (58.2/mi ). The racial makeup of the CDP was 4.59% White, 94.84% African American, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 0.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.15% of the population.
