Newport is a city in Campbell County, Kentucky, USA, at the confluence of the Ohio and Licking Rivers. Settled about 1791, Newport was incorporated as a town in 1795 and in 1850 received a city charter. In 1900, 28,301 people lived in Newport, Kentucky; in 1910, 30,309; in 1920, 29,317; and in 1940, 30,631. The population was 17,048 at the 2000 census. It is one of two county seats of Campbell County. Newport is part of the Greater Cincinnati, Ohio Metro Area which comprises over 2 million inhabitants. [1]. Newport is located at 39 °5 19 N, 84 °29 25 W (39.088661, -84.490206) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.7 km (3.0 mi ). 7.0 km (2.7 mi ) of it is land and 0.6 km (0.2 mi ) of it (8.42%) is water. Newport is located within a transition zone and is proximal to the extreme northern limit of the humid subtropical climate of the Southeastern United States. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 17,048 people, 6,975 households, and 4,045 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,420.0/km (6,267.8/mi ). There were 7,828 housing units at an average density of 1,111.2/km (2,878.0/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 91.67% White, 5.50% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.67% from other races, and 1.44% from two or more races.
