Meriden is located at 39 °11 21 N, 95 °34 6 W (39.189036, -95.568360) GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.9 km (0.4 mi ), all land.

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 706 people, 260 households, and 198 families residing in the city. The population density was 757.2/km (1,986.0/mi ). There were 279 housing units at an average density of 299.2/km (784.8/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 97.17% White, 0.99% Native American, 0.14% from other races, and 1.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.99% of the population.

There were 260 households out of which 45.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.6% were married couples living together, 16.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% were non-families. 20.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.14.
