Exeter is a village in Scott County, Illinois, United States. The population was 70 at the 2000 census. Exeter is located at 39 °43 9 N, 90 °29 46 W (39.719091, -90.496028) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.8 km (0.7 mi ), all land. The name Exeter derives from the town of Exeter in Devon, England. Numerous other places have also been given the name Exeter. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 70 people, 27 households, and 17 families residing in the village. The population density was 39.2/km (101.5/mi ). There were 32 housing units at an average density of 17.9/km (46.4/mi ). The racial makeup of the village was 98.57% White and 1.43% Native American. There were 27 households out of which 29.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.4% were married couples living together, 14.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.0% were non-families. 25.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
