New Berlin is a village in Sangamon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,030 at the 2000 census. New Berlin is located at 39 °43 31 N, 89 °54 43 W (39.725206, -89.911992) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.9 km (1.1 mi ), all land. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 1,030 people, 428 households, and 296 families residing in the village. The population density was 358.3/km (929.3/mi ). There were 459 housing units at an average density of 159.7/km (414.1/mi ). The racial makeup of the village was 98.35% White, 0.39% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.68% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.68% of the population. There were 428 households out of which 32.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.4% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% were non-families. 28.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
