Gilman is a city in Iroquois County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,793 at the 2000 census. Gilman is located along the main roadways of Interstate 57, U.S. Route 24, and U.S. Route 45, has been named "The City of the Crossroads". It is also the home of Lyle Price; Mayor, Mailman, Tree-cutter, Barber Shop Owner. Gilman is located at 40 °46 3 N, 87 °59 37 W (40.767466, -87.993611) 1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.5 km (2.1 mi ). 5.5 km (2.1 mi ) of it is land and 0.1 km (0.04 mi ) of it (0.94%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,793 people, 739 households, and 472 families residing in the city. The population density was 328.1/km (848.0/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 93.08% White, 0.22% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 5.30% from other races, and 1.00% from two or more races.
