White Hall is located at 39 °26 22 N, 90 °23 57 W (39.439466, -90.399248) GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.8 km (2.6 mi ). 6.7 km (2.6 mi ) of it is land and 0.2 km (0.1 mi ) of it (2.27%) is water.

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 2,629 people, 1,084 households, and 705 families residing in the city. The population density was 393.4/km (1,019.3/mi ). There were 1,217 housing units at an average density of 182.1/km (471.8/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 98.40% White, 0.19% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.04% Asian, 0.38% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.95% of the population.

There were 1,084 households out of which 27.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were married couples living together, 12.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% were non-families. 31.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.90.
