Lansing is a village in Cook County, Illinois, USA. Lansing is a southern suburb of Chicago. It is located 6.9 miles from Chicago city limits at 130th st. It is 25.6 miles from Downtown Chicago The population was 28,332 at the 2000 census.

The current Mayor of Lansing is Dan Podgorski. The Village Clerk is Jean Eisha. Lansing is a home rule community.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 17.7 km (6.8 mi ). 17.5 km (6.8 mi ) of it is land and 0.2 km (0.1 mi ) of it (0.88%) is water.

Lansing was incorporated in 1893. The first family to settle in Lansing was that of August Hildebrandt. Henry, George, and John Lansing settled the area in 1846.

Harry Smith, co-anchor for CBS' The Early Show and the host of A&E's Biography series, is the arguably most prominent person to have come from this suburban village.
