Kooskia is located at 46 °8 30 N, 115 °58 47 W (46.141802, -115.979708) GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.8 km (0.7 mi ). 1.7 km (0.6 mi ) of it is land and 0.1 km (0.04 mi ) of it (4.41%) is water.

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 675 people, 278 households, and 179 families residing in the city. The population density was 401.0/km (1,039.3/mi ). There were 332 housing units at an average density of 197.2/km (511.2/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 93.19% White, 2.22% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 1.63% from other races, and 2.67% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.37% of the population.

There were 278 households out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.5% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 33.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.94.
