N n kuli is a town and valley and census-designated place (CDP) in the Wai » anae District on the Island of O » ahu, City & County of Honolulu, Hawai » i. In Hawaiian, n n kuli means literally "look at knee". In the 2000 Census, this CDP had a total population of 10,814. N n kuli is located at 21 °23'36" North, 158 °9'10" West (21.393450, -158.152802) GR1 near the southern end of the Wai » anae mountain. Although most of the residents live in the valley, access is from Farrington Highway running along the coastline between Lualualei to the northwest and Kahe then Kapolei to the southeast.N n kuli in hawaiian means "to look deaf" this is because when people would pass or ask for water they would "act deaf" because they had no water to offer them. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.9 km (5.8 mi ). 6.5 km (2.5 mi ) of it is land and 8.3 km (3.2 mi ) of it is water. The total area is 56.00% water. As of the census of 2000, there were 10,814 people, 2,324 households, and 2,096 families residing in the valley. The population density of N n kuli was 1,656.9/km (4,287.6/mi ). There were 2,504 housing units at an average density of 383.7/km (992.8/mi ). The racial makeup of the CDP was 5.70% White, 0.79% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 11.61% Asian, 40.21% Pacific Islander, 0.83% from other races, and 40.59% from two or more races. 11.12% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
