New Port Richey is located at 28 °14 56 N, 82 °43 4 W (28.248918, -82.717685) GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.9 km (4.6 mi ). 11.7 km (4.5 mi ) of it is land and 0.2 km (0.1 mi ) of it (1.53%) is water.

The Pithlachascotee River flows through the downtown area on its way to the Gulf.

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 16,117 people, 7,231 households, and 3,962 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,379.8/km (3,573.3/mi ). There were 8,428 housing units at an average density of 721.5/km (1,868.6/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 94.09% White, 1.00% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.94% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 1.46% from other races, and 1.89% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.25% of the population.
