High Springs is a city in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,863 at the 2000 census. As of 2004, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 4,139 [1]. High Springs is located at 29 °49 28 N, 82 °35 43 W (29.824471, -82.595268) GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 47.9 km (18.5 mi ). 47.8 km (18.5 mi ) of it is land and 0.1 km (0.04 mi ) of it (0.16%) is water. As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 3,863 people, 1,539 households, and 1,063 families residing in the city. The population density was 80.8/km (209.3/mi ). There were 1,668 housing units at an average density of 34.9/km (90.4/mi ). The racial makeup of the city was 76.42% White, 21.18% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.31% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.12% of the population. There were 1,539 households out of which 32.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.3% were married couples living together, 14.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.9% were non-families. 25.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
