Mesa, AZ Real Estate

Mesa is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona and part of the Phoenix -Mesa- Scottsdale Metropolitan Area. It is the third-largest city in Arizona, after Phoenix and Tucson.

Mesa is one of the United States ' fastest-growing cities, and currently ranks as the 41st-largest. In 2005 the mid-decade Census survey estimated the city's population to be 442,780. [1] It actually has a larger population than better-known central cities of large United States metropolitan areas such as St. Louis, Miami, and Pittsburgh.

Despite its large population, Mesa has a decidedly suburban bedroom-community, sprawl-like character. Its downtown is minimal, and there are very few buildings in Mesa with more than two stories. Nevertheless, the recently completed Mesa Arts Center may help invigorate downtown Mesa. The city is also home to many gated mobile home retirement communities. Large portions of the city exhibit minor forms of urban blight. In other parts of Mesa, modest tract homes predominate. Mesa also contains some pockets of extravagant custom homes. It is the second-largest suburb (city not the focus or co-focus of a metropolitan area) in terms of population in the United States, behind Long Beach, California, although that city, with its distinct central business district, resembles a traditional suburb far less than does Mesa.
